Lee began his private practice career in 1995 with the Bowden Law Firm as its first associate. He rejoined the Bowden Law Firm as Of Counsel in 2026 after 19 years as the Director of Wealth Strategies for the Family Office at Synovus and a Senior Vice President of Synovus Trust Company, N.A. Lee's approach to working with clients is to collaborate with clients to identify what they want to accomplish for their family and community. With goals identified, he works with clients to select the appropriate estate planning approaches to achieve those goals. He has extensive experience working with a client's other advisors in a collaborative setting where all relevant information is shared across the team and best thinking is applied to address the client's goals.
The scope of his practice includes estate planning for estates of all sizes, advising individual and corporate fiduciaries on estate and trust administration, preparation of estate and gift tax returns and related fiduciary income tax returns, representing clients in estate and gift tax return audits, charitable planning, administration of private foundations, and consulting with families on ownership and governance issues associated with commonly owned assets including operating businesses.
Lee is a member of the Georgia Bar, its fiduciary law and tax sections, past chair of the fiduciary law section and a member of the investment committee of the Georgia Bar. He is a member of American Bar Association and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council. He has been a speaker at numerous estate planning conferences during his career.
Lee is a native of Atlanta, grew up in the Toco Hills area and attended Dekalb County's Briarcliff High School. He graduated from the University of Georgia College of Business Administration with a BBA in Finance in 1981, University of Georgia School of Law with a JD in 1984 and Emory University School of Law in 1990 with an LL.M. in Taxation. He began his career working with his father at the Atlanta Stove Works in Atlanta, Georgia and A&B Foundry in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to joining the Bowden Law Firm in 1995, Lee was an estate tax attorney with the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, Georgia.
